Sewing Obsessed!

What a gorgeous summer we are having!  I don't remember a summer like this in ages!  Okay, never mind any comments about how old I "could" be!  LOL Not a long post - just one to let you know that I am still mobile!  Sewed all last weekend and got quite a few UFO's (UnFinished Objects) done and that really made my week.  Have a few more lined up to do when I get back to sewing "full bore" I have quite a few household projects that I'm ready to start and will have to really work hard on those as most of it is painting and I want to open the windows when the weather permits.  So my sewing will be half hour here, half hour there.  BUT they do all add up in the long run!  This is a scrap quilt that I had started, I think,  June 20th and finished it on June 22nd!  The fabric was all sorts of pieces from my actual fabric stash.  I showed you the blocks a couple blogs back.  It is called "Strip Disco" and was o...

Good day everyone!  Enjoying the summer?  I sure am, even if it is in front of my sewing machine!  I do enjoy the confines of my home, but once I get outside I'm just like the little kids and don't want to come back in, but it is to get me outside first !  The Re-Dec in the kitchen is very slow.  The wallpaper from many years ago (at least 10 I think it is) is coming off in very teeny, tiny pieces.  Thanking my lucky stars that I only did the bottom half of the kitchen walls.  Soon it will be all off and the painting can begin.  Remember last time I said I "plan" my projects?  Well, I am still cutting scraps up. One set will be a tablecloth for my new kitchen!   If I can make drapes out of quilts - why can't I make a tablecloth, right?   Once again these are all from my scraps.  The pieces are 1 1/2" wide so it really did nothing to the scrap bin.  I will get some pics up next time! QUICK!!!  G et the Swiffers !! The "dust bunnies" rather the "dust kangaroos" are running wild in the sewing room!   I must admit, I left the door open for this to happen.  Working on projects then all of a sudden another idea comes to mind and I must react to it...well things get put in this corner, on that shelf and before you know it- all hell has broke loose!  LOL    So now that I am feeling somewhat better, I am putting things back in their place and collecting all the "kangaroos" to get ready for the next set of projects that I have been preparing. I have been out of commmission, so to speak, for the last two plus weeks due to a bout of "vertigo".  Yah, I get those dang things and it tends to slow down my production or creativity.  But I think I am "back up and at 'em".... finally!    Now to make up for lost sewing time LOL Before I went outta commission, I started another quilt out of scraps and stash fabrics.  A very fun and quick quilt (well it would have been if I hadn't got ...well we'll just leave that out of this story LOL) that has taken the stash down ever so slightly.  This is where I started...cutting strips from my scraps that were long enough and I really didn't worry about color.  Really... I didn't.  Now this is just 32 strips of "dark" colors.  Then I had to get 32 lights!   Okay, I know that wasn't going to happen and I wasn't about to get light browns, blues, etc.  What I was looking for was cream colored fabrics.  Well I didn't have enough ...

Once the drapes were out of the way I was then able to start on some of the projects I had brought with me.  A few have been in the making for a couple of months but others have been cut and ready for a couple of years.  Now I didn't get to all of them but if you don't have them with you, it is pretty hard to go get them if you have extra sewing time, now isn't it?  Hence the over packing of projects once again.  But that is okay as I know have my tote packed for the next camp in September!  (there is always a method to my madness LOL) This bag is a Nancy Halvorsen pattern from the book called "Love Is".  I really had alot of fun putting this one together.  And the wording was handstitched, even though I do have the technology to have had done it by machine.  I think it just "called" for it to be done by hand.   This would be a real good tote to take to the fabric shops!  It really is a big bag and you could load up on all ...

What a week I had getting things ready and up to date before I left for Camp Wanna Sew - but I did it, although not without staying up past midnite for 3 nites!  I left early Thursday morning (May 27th) with the car full of my sewing junk "treasures", and arrived there just after 10am.  Didn't take me too long to unpack and I was sewing by 11.  Now my plan of attack for this 4 day sewing camp, was to finish up one of my biggest UFO's created to date - 2 quilts for my DD that she would use as drapes for her patio door.  I was to do no other sewing until these were completely finished!  Now these were a Christmas present for last year and I have been working on quilting them on my domestic machine for the past 4 months, so I wanted them finished.   "Myself" and "I" are always getting " Me " into trouble and when "I" talked "Myself" into starting this project the end of October, the blame was on "myself & I...

I do love hand quilting, really I do.  The look of hand quilting is just so warming when you think that someone stitched the quilt with love.  Although there was lots of love put into my first quilt, I do know that I was more then overjoyed when the last stitch was put in!  With this quilt I went from quilting 1 stitch (yes, I said 1; one; Uno!) to 4 stitches at a time by the end of the quilting.  Oh, I thought I was so good then, but there was no way I was ever going to hand quilt another quilt!  Never!  I know....famous last words.  And never say never.  About 5 years later I did hand quilt my second quilt. It was made with a combination of polyester & cotton, and of course is just didn't hold up.  And I still didn't know much about what fabrics to use.   No, I don't think I ever took a picture of that one.  Needless, to say it was a few years after that before the quilting bug took hold of me...
